Investing in Tomorrow: Our Girls' Education Fund

January 20, 2026

Education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. Yet, too many girls in Zanzibar are forced to drop out of school due to financial constraints, early marriage, or family obligations. Our Girls' Education Fund is working to change this.

The Education Gap

While primary school enrollment has improved significantly in Zanzibar, the transition to secondary school remains a challenge, especially for girls. Fees, uniforms, books, and transportation costs put education out of reach for many families.

How Our Scholarship Works

Our comprehensive scholarship program covers:

  • School fees and examination costs
  • Uniforms, shoes, and school supplies
  • Transportation support where needed
  • Mentorship and academic support
  • Life skills and career guidance
  • Holiday learning programs

More Than Financial Support

We know that keeping girls in school requires more than just paying fees. That's why our scholars also receive regular mentorship from successful women professionals, participate in leadership workshops, and join a supportive community of fellow scholars.

Meet Some of Our Scholars

Aisha, 17 - "I want to be a doctor. Before the scholarship, this seemed impossible. My family could barely afford food, let alone school fees. Now I'm in Form 4 and top of my class in science subjects. My dream is becoming real."

Nasra, 16 - "Education changed how I see myself and how others see me. My parents now believe in girls' education because they see what I have achieved. My younger sister is also in school because of this."

Khadija, 18 - "I will be the first person in my family to attend university. I am studying to become a teacher so I can come back and help other girls like me."

The Ripple Effect

Research shows that educated women marry later, have fewer and healthier children, earn higher incomes, and invest more in their families' wellbeing. When we educate a girl, we transform not just her life, but the lives of generations to come.

Our Impact

Since 2022, our Girls' Education Fund has supported 150 scholars. Of these, 95% have completed their secondary education, and 30 are now in university or vocational training. These young women are becoming teachers, nurses, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

Sponsor a Scholar

For just $50 per month, you can sponsor a girl's complete secondary education. Your investment will yield returns for generations. Will you help us invest in tomorrow's leaders?
